About ALICE

ALICE, the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe, is the recognised European Technology Platform for logistics innovation. Industry-led and member-driven, ALICE is an international non-profit association bringing together companies, research organisations, public authorities, European institutions, associations and other actors involved in freight transport, logistics and supply chains.

Logistics and supply chains are being reshaped by decarbonisation, digitalisation, automation, resilience, resource constraints, geopolitical developments and changing market and societal expectations. These developments are interconnected and create dependencies across sectors, transport modes, infrastructure, technologies, regulation and operations.

ALICE provides a neutral European platform where stakeholders can understand these changes, align priorities, exchange knowledge and organise collaborative action. Through this work, ALICE contributes to more competitive, sustainable and resilient logistics in Europe, with a long-term ambition towards zero-emission freight transport and logistics.

Connecting strategy, research, policy and deployment

ALICE develops an industry-led strategic framework for logistics research, innovation and deployment in Europe. Its activities connect strategic priorities with practical collaboration through complementary channels:

Thematic Groups

where members structure priorities, develop roadmaps and recommendations, and connect expertise with projects, policy developments and innovation uptake

ALICE Communities

which provide focused collaboration spaces around specific topics and objectives, stakeholder groups or implementation needs

Influence activities

which connect ALICE expertise and project evidence with European policy, research and innovation programmes. They support dialogue with the European Commission and strengthen collaboration with relevant partnerships and networks.

ALICE Projects

which generate evidence, tools, innovative solutions, use cases and implementation experience through European research and innovation activities.

Liaison Projects

which connect external projects and initiatives with the wider ALICE ecosystem and support knowledge exchange and alignment

These activities are supported by events, workshops, knowledge exchange, project clustering, brokerage and communication and dissemination activities, as well as the ALICE Knowledge Platform.

ALICE also contributes expertise and recommendations to European research and innovation programme development, including Horizon Europe and the future FP10, and works with the European Commission, European partnerships, Technology Platforms, industry associations and other networks to strengthen coordination across the logistics innovation ecosystem.

Connecting the innovation landscape with uptake

ALICE’s work covers both the conditions shaping logistics innovation and the pathways needed to bring promising solutions closer to implementation.

  • Megatrends, including decarbonisation, digitalisation, automation, circularity, resilience and resource constraints.
  • Application domains, representing the operational environments where logistics innovation creates value.
  • Enabling technologies and concepts, including the Physical Internet, electrification, artificial intelligence, data spaces, digital twins, robotics, automation and technologies supporting rail and waterborne transport.
  • Roadmaps and publications, which translate this landscape into shared strategic guidance and research and innovation priorities.

The Innovation Uptake area focuses on what happens next: making innovative solutions, use cases, proofs of concept and knowledge generated through projects and industry initiatives easier to find, understand and connect with organisations interested in implementation. Together, these two perspectives help ALICE connect long-term change with operational needs, research and innovation activities and deployment pathways.

A European Technology Platform for logistics

European Technology Platforms are industry-led stakeholder platforms that develop research and innovation agendas and roadmaps for action at European and national level.

As the European Technology Platform for logistics, ALICE provides a structured link between the logistics sector, research and innovation activities, and European policy priorities. This enables stakeholders to identify common challenges, build consensus and work together on solutions that support both industry competitiveness and EU policy objectives.

A collaborative platform for impact

ALICE exists to help Europe’s logistics community move from shared ambition to practical action.

Through its members, Thematic Groups, ALICE Communities, projects, influence activities, liaison activities and the ALICE 4 Impact framework, ALICE supports the development and deployment of solutions that improve sustainability, competitiveness and resilience.

ALICE 4 Impact provides the framework for connecting emerging trends, operational needs, enabling technologies, research and innovation activities and market uptake. It helps strengthen the pathways through which knowledge and innovation can contribute to practical solutions, better-informed policies, new services and more sustainable logistics operations.

By connecting people, knowledge and innovation across Europe, ALICE helps shape the future of logistics in support of industry, society and the environment.
