ALICE is a member-driven international non-profit association and the European Technology Platform for logistics. Its governance structure is designed to support open collaboration, clear decision-making and active participation from across the logistics and supply chain innovation ecosystem.

The structure connects strategic governance with practical implementation. It ensures that ALICE’s activities are aligned with its mission, its members’ priorities and its role in supporting research, innovation and deployment for competitive and sustainable logistics in Europe.

Governance principles

ALICE operates according to five principles of good governance:

  • Openness. ALICE is open to legally established organisations that support research, development and innovation in logistics and supply chains.
  • Participation. Members are encouraged to contribute actively to ALICE activities, including Thematic Groups, consultations, projects and events.
  • Accountability. Roles and responsibilities are clearly defined across the association to support transparent and reliable decision-making.
  • Effectiveness. ALICE works with clear objectives, structured activities and a focus on delivering value for members and the wider logistics sector.
  • Coherence. Activities are aligned with ALICE’s mission, vision, strategic agenda and long-term objectives for sustainable and competitive logistics.

How ALICE is organised

ALICE’s governance model brings together members, elected representatives, expert groups and the Secretariat.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the highest authority of ALICE and is composed of all members. It reviews and approves key decisions, including annual reports, accounts, budgets, internal rules and elections.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and manages the association in line with the decisions of the General Assembly. It supports the effective delivery of ALICE’s mission.

Executive Group

The Executive Group brings together the members of the Board of Directors and the Chairs and Co-Chairs of the Thematic Groups. It helps connect strategy with the work carried out across ALICE’s Thematic Groups.

Mirror Group

The Mirror Group supports dialogue between ALICE, Member States, Associated Countries to the EU R&I Programme, national stakeholders and related logistics innovation actors. It provides a channel for exchange on European logistics research and innovation priorities and supports alignment between ALICE activities and national and European perspectives.

Secretariat

The ALICE Secretariat supports the daily work of ALICE, including programmes, projects, events, communications, finance, administration, member engagement and governance processes.

From governance to action

ALICE’s governance structure is designed to turn member expertise into shared priorities and practical action.

Through the General Assembly, members contribute to the overall direction of the association. Through the Board of Directors and Executive Group, strategic priorities are coordinated and translated into work programmes. Through the Mirror Group, ALICE maintains a channel for dialogue with Member States and Associated Countries to the EU R&I Programme and national stakeholders on logistics research and innovation priorities. Through the Secretariat, these priorities are implemented through Thematic Groups, Communities, projects, events, policy input, knowledge sharing and innovation activities.

This structure enables ALICE to act as a neutral platform for collaboration while maintaining a clear focus on competitiveness, sustainability, resilience and impact.
