ALICE is an independent expert-driven network committed to driving logistics and supply chain innovation that meets Europe’s societal, environmental, and industrial priorities. ALICE brings stakeholders together to identify priorities, align research and innovation efforts, and support the deployment of solutions that improve performance, competitiveness and sustainability. Our mission, vision and strategic agenda guide this work.
Our mission
ALICE’s mission is to accelerate collaborative innovation for a more competitive, efficient and sustainable logistics and supply chain sector in Europe.
We support the development and deployment of new logistics concepts, solutions, technologies, business models and operational practices. Our work aims to improve end-to-end logistics performance, reduce emissions, strengthen resilience and help European industry remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.
A key ambition is to contribute to a 30% improvement in end-to-end logistics performance by 2030. This ambition reflects the need for logistics systems that are more efficient, better connected, more sustainable and more responsive to the needs of industry and society.
Improving logistics efficiency by 10% to 30% across the EU could generate an estimated €100 to €300 billion in cost relief for European industry. This illustrates the strategic importance of logistics as a driver of competitiveness, productivity and sustainable growth.
ALICE aims to contribute to a competitive, sustainable and resilient European industry, supported by a logistics and supply chain sector which takes into account people, the planet and profit. This means a sector that supports economic growth while reducing its climate and environmental impact. It also means supply chains that are better prepared for disruption, more transparent, more collaborative and able to make better use of assets, infrastructure, data and transport capacity.
ALICE’s long-term vision is closely linked to the Physical Internet: interconnected logistics systems in which goods, assets, infrastructure and information flow more efficiently across networks. By enabling better use of resources, infrastructure and transport capacity, this approach can help reduce inefficiencies, lower emissions and strengthen the performance of logistics operations across Europe bringing resilience by operational design as default.
Our vision
ALICE’s vision is a European logistics system that is efficient, resilient, digitally connected and environmentally sustainable.
Our strategic agenda
ALICE develops and updates a common strategic agenda for logistics research, innovation and deployment. This agenda helps align stakeholders around shared priorities and provides input to European research and innovation programmes, including Horizon Europe and upcoming programmes.
The strategic agenda is shaped through Thematic Groups with input from members, Communities, and projects and in collaboration with European institutions and partner organisations. It focuses on areas where coordinated action can deliver measurable impact for the logistics sector and for society.
Key priorities include:
Efficient and resilient supply chains
Improving logistics performance, visibility, flexibility and preparedness across European and global supply networks
Zero-emission logistics
Supporting pathways towards climate-neutral freight transport, warehousing and logistics operations by 2050
Digital and data-driven logistics
Advancing interoperability, data sharing, automation, artificial intelligence and digital collaboration across logistics ecosystems.
The Physical Internet
Promoting open, interconnected and collaborative logistics networks that make better use of assets, infrastructure and capacity.
Corridors, hubs and interconnected networks
Strengthening multimodal freight systems, logistics nodes and the increased use of rail and waterborne transport where they provide operational and environmental value.
Urban Logistics
Supporting cleaner, safer and more efficient freight solutions for cities and regions.
From strategy to impact
ALICE turns strategic priorities into action by connecting stakeholders, defining research and innovation needs, supporting European projects, sharing knowledge, enabling impact, and helping promising solutions move towards deployment.
Through this collaborative approach, ALICE contributes to a logistics sector that is more sustainable, more competitive and better equipped to meet Europe’s long-term climate, industrial and societal goals.
