Innovation uptake is about turning knowledge, research results and promising solutions into practical value for logistics operations.
Across Europe, research and innovation projects, start-ups, and industry-led pilots generate a steady stream of useful concepts, technologies, tools and business models. The challenge is to ensure that these results are visible, understood, tested in relevant environments and connected with the organisations that can use them.
ALICE supports this process by linking research, industry needs, policy developments and market deployment. Through the ALICE 4 Impact approach, we help bridge the gap between project results and real-world implementation.
From research results to practical implementation
Innovation in logistics often depends on several actors changing at the same time: a digital solution may need interoperable systems and data-sharing agreements; a zero-emission transport solution may depend on vehicles, charging infrastructure, energy supply, route planning and operational requirements a collaborative logistics model may need trust, governance and a clear business case.
ALICE helps identify these interdependencies and creates a neutral space where stakeholders can work together on adoption and scale-up.
Our focus is on solutions with direct relevance for freight transport and logistics, including those developed through EU-funded projects, industry-led pilots, start-ups, technology providers and cross-sector collaboration.
Supporting adoption and scale-up
ALICE supports innovation uptake by connecting promising solutions with the knowledge, stakeholders and conditions needed for implementation.
This includes:
mapping high-potential innovations and project results
sharing use cases, pilots and proofs of concept
supporting knowledge exchange through events, workshops and the Knowledge Platform
connecting innovation owners with potential users, partners and investors
identifying barriers to adoption and scaling
linking project results with ALICE Thematic Groups, Communities, roadmaps and policy discussions
increasing visibility of innovations through communication, events and the ALICE Logistics Innovation Award
This work helps improve the value of public and private investment in logistics research and innovation.
The ALICE innovation uptake
Innovative solutions
ALICE showcases innovative solutions emerging from projects, industry initiatives and collaboration across the logistics ecosystem.
These may include digital tools, operational models, zero-emission logistics solutions, data-sharing approaches, automation concepts, Physical Internet applications, emissions reporting methods or new services supporting more efficient and resilient supply chains.
The objective is to make promising solutions easier to find, understand and connect with potential users.
Use cases and proofs of concept
Use cases and proofs of concept show how innovation performs in real or realistic logistics environments.
They provide practical evidence on what works, under which conditions and what is needed for wider adoption including operational requirements, business models, stakeholder dependencies, policy needs and deployment barriers.
By sharing these examples, ALICE supports peer learning and helps organisations assess whether similar approaches could be relevant for their own operations.
ALICE Knowledge Platform
The ALICE Knowledge Platform brings together resources, insights and outputs from ALICE activities, projects, Thematic Groups, Communities and events including project results, presentations, recordings, working documents and other resources linked to innovation uptake.
It helps members access relevant knowledge, following developments in logistics innovation and connecting with ongoing work across the ALICE ecosystem.
