Connected, Cooperative and Automated MoBility Assessment & Stakeholder Dedicated and Operational awareness Raising

CCAMbassador is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (CSA) that supports the transition of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) from research and innovation into real-world deployment. The project strengthens cooperation between stakeholders, enhances the European CCAM Knowledge Base, promotes the adoption of harmonised evaluation methods, and improves awareness and preparedness among public authorities, operators and citizens.

Project overview

Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility is progressing rapidly through research and pilot projects across Europe. However, the transition from innovation to operational deployment remains challenging due to fragmented stakeholder engagement, differing levels of readiness across Member States, and limited awareness among implementers and citizens.

CCAMbassador addresses these challenges by extending engagement beyond traditional research communities to include public authorities, transport operators, logistics stakeholders, policymakers and citizens. The project strengthens coordination within the European CCAM ecosystem, enhances the existing CCAM Knowledge Base and promotes the wider adoption of the European Common Evaluation Methodology (EU-CEM).

By improving cooperation, harmonisation and capacity building, CCAMbassador supports the development of a more inclusive and operationally ready CCAM ecosystem capable of accelerating deployment throughout Europe.

Objectives and expected outcomes

Objectives

CCAMbassador aims to:

01

Support stakeholders in moving from CCAM research towards deployment and operations.

Identify the key building blocks required for successful CCAM implementation.

03

Strengthen cooperation between European, national, regional and local stakeholders.

04

Expand and enhance the European-wide CCAM Knowledge Base.

05

Increase awareness and readiness among public authorities, operators and citizens.

06

Promote broader adoption of the European Common Evaluation Methodology (EU-CEM).

07

Support harmonisation of testing and deployment regulations across Europe.

08

Facilitate international cooperation and knowledge exchange on CCAM deployment.

Expected results

The project will deliver:

01

A comprehensive mapping of the European CCAM ecosystem.

02

Deployment building blocks and implementation guidance for different stakeholder groups.

03

Enhanced stakeholder engagement mechanisms and international cooperation activities.

04

Dedicated Knowledge Hubs tailored to implementers, researchers and citizens.

05

CCAMbassador project

Demonstrations, pilots and validation

CCAMbassador does not develop physical technology demonstrators. Instead, it focuses on stakeholder engagement, deployment readiness assessment, knowledge sharing and validation of implementation approaches.

Validation activities include:

01

Mapping and analysis of CCAM deployment initiatives across Europe.

02

Readiness assessments for public authorities and operators.

03

Surveys and awareness studies involving citizens and transport users.

04

Workshops, focus groups and stakeholder consultations.

05

International cooperation activities and knowledge exchange events.

06

Capacity-building programmes and training activities for implementers.

07

Validation and refinement of the European Common Evaluation Methodology (EU-CEM).

European CCAM events

The project will also organise major European CCAM events, including the EUCAD Symposium and EUCAD Conference, supporting knowledge exchange and stakeholder collaboration.

ALICE's role

ALICE plays an important role in ensuring that logistics and freight transport requirements are fully represented within the European CCAM ecosystem.

Specifically, ALICE:

  • Contributes to stakeholder engagement and concertation activities within the CCAM community.
  • Represents the interests and perspectives of logistics operators within the Stakeholder Representative Group.
  • Supports the identification of deployment building blocks relevant to freight transport and logistics operations.
  • Contributes logistics expertise to ecosystem mapping and stakeholder readiness activities.
  • Participates in the development of recommendations for CCAM deployment and operational implementation.
  • Co-leads the definition and development of the operator-focused Knowledge Hub within the CCAM Knowledge Base.
  • Ensures that logistics sector needs, operational practices and deployment challenges are reflected in project outputs.
  • Facilitates links with other European logistics, automation and digitalisation initiatives.

Through these activities, ALICE helps bridge the gap between CCAM innovation and practical deployment in freight transport and supply chains.
