Project overview
Pre-LSDemo is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action that lays the foundations for future large-scale demonstrations of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility, or CCAM. Over 12 months, it brings together stakeholders from across Europe to develop shared methodologies, engagement processes and demonstration-planning approaches that can support future CCAM deployment.
The project addresses three complementary mobility domains: individual mobility, public and shared transport, and freight logistics. Its work covers societal readiness, stakeholder engagement, demonstration planning, data handling and outreach. By creating common frameworks across these areas, Pre-LSDemo aims to help ensure that future large-scale demonstrations are technically feasible, socially accepted and aligned with stakeholder needs.
For freight and logistics, the project provides an opportunity to incorporate sector-specific requirements into the early planning of future CCAM demonstrations, including operational readiness, data-sharing approaches, enabling technologies and suitable demonstration environments.
Objectives and expected outcomes
Objectives
Pre-LSDemo aims to create a common foundation for future large-scale CCAM demonstrations across Europe. Its objectives are to:
Develop a modular Societal Readiness Framework that can be applied across different CCAM domains.
Establish a Multi-Stakeholder Forum supporting co-creation and stakeholder engagement.
Develop an integrated CCAM Demonstration Plan covering use cases, test sites and readiness dimensions.
Define approaches to data handling, governance and interoperability.
Prepare dissemination, communication and outreach strategies for future large-scale demonstrations.
Ensure that freight logistics requirements are incorporated into CCAM demonstration planning.
Expected outcomes
The project is expected to deliver:
A common methodology for assessing societal readiness.
A permanent Multi-Stakeholder Forum and supporting thematic working groups.
A coordinated plan for future large-scale CCAM demonstrations.
Guidance on data handling, governance and readiness assessment.
Better coordination between mobility sectors, including freight logistics.
Freight-specific recommendations concerning demonstration services, enabling technologies, data sharing, operational readiness and candidate sites.
Dissemination, communication and outreach approaches supporting future CCAM deployment.
Demonstrations, pilots and validation
Pre-LSDemo does not itself conduct the future large-scale demonstrations. Instead, it prepares the frameworks, planning processes and validation activities that those demonstrations will require.
The project’s validation approach combines:
Literature reviews.
Stakeholder consultations.
Co-creation activities.
Validation of the Societal Readiness Framework.
A Multi-Stakeholder Forum.
Thematic working groups involving industry, public authorities, research organisations and users.
The integrated Demonstration Plan will address candidate use cases, enabling technologies, operational readiness, data-handling concepts and criteria for demonstration sites across individual mobility, public and shared transport, and freight logistics.
Innovative solutions
Modular Societal Readiness Framework
The project is developing a modular framework for assessing societal readiness across different CCAM domains. Its preparation draws on literature reviews, stakeholder consultation and validation activities.
Multi-Stakeholder Forum
A Multi-Stakeholder Forum, supported by thematic working groups, will provide a structured mechanism for co-creation and engagement among industry, public authorities, research organisations and users.
Integrated CCAM Demonstration Plan
The Demonstration Plan will bring together candidate use cases, enabling technologies, operational-readiness requirements, data-handling concepts and criteria for selecting demonstration sites across the project’s three mobility domains.
Data handling and governance guidance
Pre-LSDemo will define approaches to data handling, governance and interoperability for future demonstrations. Its outputs will include guidance supporting future planning and readiness assessment.
Freight-specific recommendations
The project will prepare freight-focused recommendations covering demonstration services, enabling technologies, data sharing, operational readiness and candidate demonstration sites.
ALICE's role
ALICE participates in Pre-LSDemo to ensure that freight logistics is represented throughout the project and that future CCAM demonstrations reflect the operational realities of logistics and freight transport.
ALICE contributes by:
- Providing logistics-specific stakeholder mapping, societal-readiness indicators and assessment criteria for the Societal Readiness Framework.
- Leading engagement with the freight logistics community through the Multi-Stakeholder Forum.
- Involving logistics operators, shippers, terminal operators, technology providers and public authorities in co-creation.
- Supporting the definition of freight use cases and enabling technologies.
- Contributing operational-readiness requirements and data-handling approaches.
- Supporting the identification of candidate demonstration sites.
- Mobilising its logistics network for dissemination, outreach and wider stakeholder engagement.
