The Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation introduces a common European framework for the electronic exchange of freight transport information between economic operators and competent authorities. While eFTI provides an important foundation for digital compliance, its current scope remains focused primarily on regulatory reporting. EXITO aims to extend this foundation into a broader digital ecosystem that supports seamless information sharing, interoperability and value creation across European freight and logistics networks.
Building on the eFTI legal framework and implementation specifications, EXITO develops and demonstrates an interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space together with a portfolio of digital services for business-to-authority (B2A) and business-to-business (B2B) information exchange. The project supports multimodal and cross-border logistics operations while promoting SME participation, sustainability reporting and the digital transformation of freight transport.
EXITO aims to facilitate the large-scale implementation of the eFTI Regulation and accelerate the digital transformation of freight transport across Europe. The project will:
Develop an interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space.
Create a portfolio of digital services supporting freight information exchange.
Improve interoperability between eFTI platforms, logistics operators and competent authorities.
Enable secure B2A and B2B data exchange for multimodal and cross-border transport.
Demonstrate solutions in real operational environments.
Support SME adoption of digital freight information services.
Enable additional use cases including emissions reporting, sustainability reporting and logistics data spaces.
EXITO will deliver:
An interoperable logistics data space based on eFTI principles.
A Universal Logistics Connectivity Agent (ExCA).
Interoperable digital services supporting freight transport information exchange.
Demonstrated solutions tested in real-life logistics operations.
Training materials and replication guidelines.
Best practices supporting Europe-wide deployment.
A Community of Practice facilitating long-term market uptake.
EXITO validates its solutions through large-scale demonstrations involving logistics operators, technology providers, freight users, competent authorities and SMEs. The demonstrations focus on multimodal and cross-border freight transport operations and assess the performance, interoperability, scalability and practical value of project solutions in real operational settings.
Demonstration environments: The proposal includes eight use cases implemented through seven demonstration environments across seven European countries.
Validation and replication: The demonstrations are complemented by interoperability assessments, performance evaluations, stakeholder engagement activities, training actions and replication guidelines to support deployment beyond the project consortium.
A key innovation of EXITO is the development of the Universal Logistics Connectivity Agent (ExCA), designed as a common interoperability layer connecting existing eFTI platforms and logistics systems without requiring stakeholders to replace their current solutions.
Additional innovations include:
An interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space.
Secure and trusted B2A and B2B data exchange services.
Standardised interoperability approaches supporting seamless information exchange.
Support for emissions and sustainability reporting.
Data-space-enabled logistics services.
Digital compliance and collaborative logistics solutions.
Interoperable identification, authentication and authorisation mechanisms aligned with European trust frameworks.
ALICE participates in EXITO to ensure that project solutions address the operational needs of the European logistics sector and facilitate large-scale deployment of eFTI across Europe.
ALICE leads the EXITO Community of Practice (Ex-COP), bringing together logistics service providers, shippers, technology developers, competent authorities, research organisations and standardisation bodies. Through this community, ALICE facilitates knowledge exchange, gathers stakeholder feedback, identifies adoption barriers and supports validation of project outcomes.
The project brings together 30 partners from multiple European countries, representing research organisations, technology providers, logistics service providers, shippers, ports, rail stakeholders, standards organisations, industry associations and digital innovation experts.
