Project overview

The Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation introduces a common European framework for the electronic exchange of freight transport information between economic operators and competent authorities. While eFTI provides an important foundation for digital compliance, its current scope remains focused primarily on regulatory reporting. EXITO aims to extend this foundation into a broader digital ecosystem that supports seamless information sharing, interoperability and value creation across European freight and logistics networks.

Building on the eFTI legal framework and implementation specifications, EXITO develops and demonstrates an interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space together with a portfolio of digital services for business-to-authority (B2A) and business-to-business (B2B) information exchange. The project supports multimodal and cross-border logistics operations while promoting SME participation, sustainability reporting and the digital transformation of freight transport.

Objectives and expected outcomes

Objectives

EXITO aims to facilitate the large-scale implementation of the eFTI Regulation and accelerate the digital transformation of freight transport across Europe. The project will:

01

Develop an interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space.

02

Create a portfolio of digital services supporting freight information exchange.

03

Improve interoperability between eFTI platforms, logistics operators and competent authorities.

04

Enable secure B2A and B2B data exchange for multimodal and cross-border transport.

05

Demonstrate solutions in real operational environments.

06

Support SME adoption of digital freight information services.

07

Enable additional use cases including emissions reporting, sustainability reporting and logistics data spaces.

Expected results

EXITO will deliver:

01

An interoperable logistics data space based on eFTI principles.

02

A Universal Logistics Connectivity Agent (ExCA).

03

Interoperable digital services supporting freight transport information exchange.

04

Demonstrated solutions tested in real-life logistics operations.

05

Training materials and replication guidelines.

06

Best practices supporting Europe-wide deployment.

07

A Community of Practice facilitating long-term market uptake.

EXITO project overview

Demonstrations, pilots and validation

EXITO validates its solutions through large-scale demonstrations involving logistics operators, technology providers, freight users, competent authorities and SMEs. The demonstrations focus on multimodal and cross-border freight transport operations and assess the performance, interoperability, scalability and practical value of project solutions in real operational settings.

The demonstrations will include:

01

Eight use cases addressing digital freight information exchange in multimodal and cross-border transport.

02

Seven demonstration environments across seven European countries.

03

Interoperability assessments between digital freight information systems and relevant stakeholders.

04

Performance evaluations assessing the scalability and practical value of project solutions.

05

Stakeholder engagement involving logistics operators, technology providers, freight users, competent authorities and SMEs.

06

Training activities supporting the adoption of digital freight information services.

07

Replication guidelines to support the deployment of EXITO solutions beyond the project consortium.

Together, these activities will assess the performance, interoperability, scalability and practical value of EXITO solutions in real operational settings, supporting their wider adoption across European freight transport.

Innovative solutions

Universal Logistics Connectivity Agent (ExCA)

A key innovation of EXITO is the development of the Universal Logistics Connectivity Agent (ExCA), designed as a common interoperability layer connecting existing eFTI platforms and logistics systems without requiring stakeholders to replace their current solutions.

Additional innovations include:

An interoperable eFTI-compliant logistics data space

Secure and trusted B2A and B2B data exchange services

Standardised interoperability approaches supporting seamless information exchange

Support for emissions and sustainability reporting

Data-space-enabled logistics services

Digital compliance and collaborative logistics solutions

Interoperable identification, authentication and authorisation mechanisms aligned with European trust frameworks

ALICE's role

ALICE participates in EXITO to ensure that project solutions address the operational needs of the European logistics sector and facilitate large-scale deployment of eFTI across Europe.

ALICE leads the EXITO Community of Practice (Ex-COP), bringing together logistics service providers, shippers, technology developers, competent authorities, research organisations and standardisation bodies. Through this community, ALICE facilitates knowledge exchange, gathers stakeholder feedback, identifies adoption barriers and supports validation of project outcomes.

In addition, ALICE contributes to:
  • Communication and dissemination activities.
  • Exploitation and sustainability planning.
  • Stakeholder engagement and community building.
  • Synergies with European logistics initiatives and projects.
  • Replication and long-term uptake of project results.
  • Policy dialogue supporting implementation of the eFTI Regulation.

Related ALICE activities

Through its thematic groups, communities and European project activities, ALICE supports the exchange of knowledge and operational experience on digital freight information, interoperability and collaborative logistics.

Related policy activities

  • Supporting implementation and market uptake of the Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation.
  • Contributing operational evidence and stakeholder feedback to European discussions on digital freight information exchange.
  • Supporting dialogue on interoperability, trusted data sharing, logistics data spaces and the practical adoption of eFTI-based services.
  • Connecting project results with relevant European initiatives, authorities, standards organisations and logistics stakeholders.

Related roadmap contributions

  • Physical Internet: Trusted and interoperable freight-data exchange, shared semantics and reusable B2B and B2A connectivity across modes and borders.
  • Zero Emissions Logistics 2050: Improved exchange of emissions and sustainability data and support for consistent emissions-reporting approaches.

Related project contributions

  • IKIGAI: Particularly regarding logistics data spaces, reusable digital services and exploitation pathways.
  • SEAMLESS: Regarding interoperability and digital information exchange in multimodal logistics.
